Abstract

Introduction: Nutritional management is essential in monitoring children with Lactose Intolerance (LI) and Milk Hypersensitivity (MH). Objective: This study evaluated the nutritional status of children with LI and CMPA. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 30 subjects, of both genders, aged between 3 months and 15 years, clinically diagnosed with LI and CMPA. Calcium intake was assessed through a 72-hour dietary record. Anthropometric parameters used were Weight/Age, Height/Age, and Body Mass Index/Age. Symptoms, duration of clinical diagnosis, and supplementation with vitamins and minerals were investigated through a questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software, version 13.0. Results: 20 (66.7%) were children with LI and 10 (33.3%) with CMPA. Both groups showed low calcium intake (p>0.001) and a high prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms: diarrhea and gas. The nutritional status was classified as adequate according to anthropometric indices. Conclusion: Children with LI and CMPA exhibited inadequate calcium intake, high prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms, and adequate anthropometric indices.
