Abstract

Objective: to provide nutrient intake and its association with the length of stay of patients with prostate cancer. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out in a clinic specializing in oncology treatment. The sample consisted of 101 patients. Food consumption was collected through the application of two 24-hour recalls, one on the weekend. To analyze the intake of macronutrients and micronutrients, reference values from the Dietary Reference Intake were used. Cancer staging was obtained from medical records. Results: Patients with prostate cancer are mostly elderly 94.6% (95.5) with low caloric intake 72.3% (73) and fiber intake 84.2% (85). Lower intake of polyunsaturated fat (p= 0.021), omega 3 (p= 0.003) and omega 6 (p= 0.012) is associated with more advanced clinical tumor staging. High prevalence of intake contains vitamin D, A, thiamine, calcium, zinc, riboflavin, vitamin C and vitamin E. Vitamin C was associated with more advanced prostate cancer staging, both for useful intake (p=0.031) and for lower intake (p= 0.014). Conclusion: There was a prevalence of energy, macronutrient and micronutrient consumption among patients with prostate cancer. There was emphasis on the lower intake of polyunsaturated fat, omega-3 and omega-6 and vitamin C associated with a more advanced disease.
