Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on global mental health, with an observed increase in eating disorders, including orthorexia nervosa. This condition is characterized by an obsession with excessively healthy eating, negatively affecting social and environmental aspects. Objective: This study aims to analyze the traits of orthorexia nervosa during the COVID-19 pandemic, using a virtual questionnaire to collect data. Furthermore, we seek to investigate the relationship between orthorexia nervosa, age, sex and body mass index (BMI). Methods: The research was conducted cross-sectionally, using an online questionnaire hosted on Google Forms. The sample consisted of residents of cities in the south of Santa Catarina. The questionnaire included demographic information and the Ortho-15 form to assess orthorexia nervosa. Statistical tests were performed with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Data analysis revealed an average age of 22.70 years, with a predominance of females (84.6%). The average score on the orthorexia nervosa questionnaire was 33.72, indicating a trend below the cutoff point for diagnosing the condition. No significant associations were found between orthorexia nervosa, age and BMI, however there was a significant association with sex, with higher levels observed among women.
