Efficacy of available tools to assess the quality of physiotherapy services in Brazil: A literature review

Introduction: Developing tools to measure the quality of care and analyzing existing ones is imperative to achieving excellence in physiotherapy. Objective: This literature review describes the effectiveness of instruments/tools available for evaluating the quality of physiotherapy care services developed exclusively for the Brazilian context. Methods: This is a literature review. A literature search was conducted in the following electronic databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Scientific Electronic Library Online, and Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. Health science descriptors were used. Titles and abstracts of articles were evaluated, and finally, the complete text was read for final evaluation by two independent researchers. In case of disagreement, a third researcher performed the evaluation. Results: The database search resulted in the identification of 17 references, all of which were analyzed; 6 were included in the review and 11 were excluded. Among the selected references, 4 are doctoral theses, 1 is a master's dissertation, and 1 is a scientific article published in a journal. Of the tools evaluated, 5 are suitable for practical application, and only one did not reach the levels of internal consistency for that function. Conclusion: Five of the six evaluative tools for physiotherapy services available in Brazil, addressed in this study, are validated, reproducible, and applicable and should be used for their intended purposes.
