Abstract

Introduction:  Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is prescribed for women with locally advanced tumors, inflammatory carcinomas or triple negative carcinomas, and is selective for a portion of women with breast cancer. In this population, few studies have been conducted that address issues of sexual function and body appreciation. Objective: The aim is to present the case report of the patient that realize neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: For data collection was applied, in HUSM Chemotherapy outpatient clinic, the sociodemographic questionnaire, Female Sexual Function Index and Body Appreciation Scale, before starting treatment, after completion of chemotherapy cycles and 30 days later. Results: The patient D.S.F., 33 years old, showed low body appreciation at all times. At the beginning of treatment, haven’t sexual dysfunction. At the end of cycles, showed sexual dysfunction that persisted after the end of treatment, in total Female Sexual Function Index and all domains. Conclusion: The analysis of this case highlights that neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment affected this patient's sexual function, but not her body image. Thus, sexual function can be influenced not only by physical changes resulting from cancer treatment, but also by emotional, psychological, relational and sociocultural factors. This complexity reinforces the importance of a multidimensional approach in the assessment and care of the sexual health of women with cancer.
