Abstract

Introduction: Dyspareunia is characterized as pain before, during or after sexual intercourse. It can be classified as primary or secondary, superficial or deep, and recurrent or conditional. This dysfunction is often found after cancer treatments, generating a negative impact on quality of life, including physical, psychological, social and sexual factors. Objective: Review the literature of the last 5 years in order to evaluate the performance of physiotherapy in the treatment of dyspareunia in patients who suffered gynecological cancer. Methods: This is an integrative review of studies that sought to evaluate the performance of physiotherapy in women with dyspareunia after gynecological cancer, in scientific articles published in digital journals between the years 2017 to 2022, in the databases PubMed, BVS, Science Direct, PEDro and SciELO. Results: Different outcomes were evaluated in this review and showed a statistically significant improvement in pelvic floor functionality, sexual function, psychosexual factors, quality of life and also the possibility of maintaining the results after one year of follow-up. Conclusion: The studies evaluated in this review suggest that physiotherapy promotes improvements for women with dyspareunia after gynecological cancer. Despite all research demonstrating good results, more studies are needed to confirm these findings.
