Introduction: The increase in the elderly population in Brazil has become progressively more significant, reflecting a trend of accelerated demographic growth. This phenomenon is associated with a higher prevalence of falls, a significant public health problem. In this context, stabilometry emerges as a complementary method for the objective assessment of postural control and fall risk. Objective: To evaluate stabilometric parameters to aid in screening for fall risk in elderly individuals. Methods: This was an observational cross-sectional study, in which 84 elderly individuals of both sexes, aged 70.7 ± 7.5 years, were evaluated. A functional assessment consisting of the following tests was applied to screen for fall risk: Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), time Up and Go (TUG), Functional Reach Test (FRT), International Falls Efficacy Scale (FES-I), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Gait Speed Test (GST), Handgrip Strength (HGS), and stabilometric assessment. Results: There was a tendency for differences in stabilometric values between the low-risk and high-risk fall groups classified by the TUG test, but there was no statistical difference (p > 0.05). Statistically significant differences were observed in most stabilometric variables and functional tests with advancing age. Conclusion: The elderly classified by the TUG test regarding the risk of falling presented differences in stabilometric values, although statistically without significance. Despite this finding, an increase in stabilometric values and differences in the scores of functional tests were observed in the 80+ group, compared with younger age groups.
