Epidemiological analysis of live births with Tetralogy of Fallot in Brazil (2021-2025) and its relationship with Physiotherapy

Introduction: Tetralogy of Fallot is one of the most common cyanotic congenital heart malformations in childhood, representing a major challenge in the clinical, diagnostic, and care areas of pediatrics. Objective: This study described the profile of live births with Tetralogy of Fallot in Brazil and related it to the importance of physiotherapy intervention. Methods: A cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted using data from the Department of Epidemiological Analysis and Surveillance of Non-Communicable Diseases of the Secretariat of Health and Environment Surveillance, available in the Monitoring Panel of Congenital Malformations, Deformities, and Chromosomal Anomalies. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were adopted, and the data were subsequently tabulated. Results: Brazil recorded 790 live births with Tetralogy of Fallot in the last 5 years, predominantly among mothers aged between 30 and 39 years, delivered by cesarean section, and male. Literature highlights that technological development and the expansion of specialized prenatal care have significantly contributed to the increased detection of congenital heart defects, allowing for diagnosis during pregnancy and favoring adequate planning of childbirth and neonatal care. Conclusion: Physiotherapy plays a role in the prevention of respiratory complications, cardiovascular rehabilitation, and the promotion of patients' functional capacity. Therefore, this study contributes to understanding the epidemiological profile of Tetralogy of Fallot in Brazil and provides support for the planning of public policies, care strategies, and comprehensive care actions.
