Analysis of morbidity due to acute myocardial infarction in the Southeast region (2021-2025): A retrospective study

Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) represent the leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, imposing a substantial burden of disease and disability worldwide. Objective: This study described the profile of individuals hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction in the Southeast region of Brazil, correlating it with the importance of cardiac rehabilitation. Methods: This is a retrospective and quantitative approach. The data source used will be linked to DATASUS, through the SUS hospital morbidity data, adopting inclusion and exclusion criteria, and subsequently tabulating the data. Results: In 5 years, the Southeast region recorded 413,338 cases of hospitalizations for AMI, predominantly in the state of São Paulo, in the 60-69 age group, white, male, and of an urgent nature. There is an urgent need to improve prevention and control strategies for cardiovascular risk factors, especially among the adult and elderly population. Conclusion: It was highlighted that physiotherapy and cardiac rehabilitation programs play a fundamental role in functional recovery, reduction of readmissions, improvement of quality of life, and decrease in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen public policies aimed at primary and secondary prevention, encourage healthy lifestyle habits, expand access to early diagnosis, and improve the quality of emergency and cardiovascular rehabilitation services.
