Prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries in adult Beach Tennis players: Systematic review

Abstract

Introduction: Beach tennis is a growing sport, characterized by high intensity and repetitive movements, factors that can increase the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. Objective: To analyze, through a systematic review, the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries in adult beach tennis practitioners, identifying the most affected body regions and the main associated factors. Methods: This is a systematic review with a descriptive design and qualitative approach, conducted in accordance with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) 2020, guidelines, with protocol registered with PROSPERO (CRD420261377635). The search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, VHL (Virtual Health Library), SciELO, in addition to the electronic search source Google Scholar, using descriptors related to athletic injuries and racquet sports. Studies published between 2024 and 2026 were included, resulting in seven eligible articles for analysis. Results: Variation in the prevalence of injuries was observed between studies, with a predominance of involvement in the upper limbs, especially the shoulder and elbow. Among the main associated factors, high training volume, inadequate recovery, muscle deficits, failures in motor control and practice time stand out. Conclusion: The practice of beach tennis is associated with a relevant risk of musculoskeletal injuries, making it essential to control the training load, muscle strengthening and technical improvement as preventive strategies.
