Introduction: Prematurity is recognized as one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality. Faced with this challenge, the Kangaroo Mother Care method is recognized as a crucial humanized practice that strengthens the mother-baby bond. Objective: To review the literature on the impact of Kangaroo Mother Care in Neonatal Intensive Care Units on the weight gain of premature infants. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, based on the following databases: National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). The search focused on the descriptors "kangaroo mother care" and "weight gain". Clinical trials and observational studies detailing the direct effects of Kangaroo Mother Care on the weight gain of premature infants admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Units were included. Results: The findings demonstrate that Kangaroo Mother Care is effective in promoting significant weight gain, accelerating the recovery of birth weight. An improvement was observed in several physiological and behavioral parameters. The duration of skin-to-skin contact and the support offered to the mother were identified as determining factors in maximizing the effectiveness of the method. Conclusion: Kangaroo Mother Care is a safe and highly effective intervention, especially when it comes to weight gain in premature newborns. Its application contributes directly to growth, clinical stability and, vitally, to strengthening the emotional bond between mother and baby. Studies indicate that it should be widely encouraged and integrated into neonatal care.
