Introduction: The alignment of the lower limbs is essential for the safe execution of movements in ballet. Dynamic knee valgus may result from imbalances in hip rotator strength, affecting performance and increasing the risk of injuries. Objective: Dynamic valgus was correlated with muscle asymmetry, assessed by the maximum repetition (RM) test of the hip rotators, in ballet dancers. Methods: Twenty-three dancers of both sexes (19 women and 4 men; mean age: 19.13 ± 2.88 years) participated in the study. All participants were evaluated for knee valgus using Q-angle measurements obtained through photogrammetry and analyzed with the Postural Assessment Software (SAPo). The strength of the hip internal (IR) and external rotator (ER) muscles was assessed using maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) via isometric dynamometry, while asymmetry between IR and ER muscles was determined through the 1RM test under elastic resistance. Results: A significant moderate correlation was found between MVIC and 1RM of the right hip internal rotators (r = 0.448; p = 0.032). A moderate, although not statistically significant, correlation was also observed between hip IR/ER muscle asymmetry and knee valgus (right: r = 0.399; p = 0.126; left: r = 0.446; p = 0.073). No correlations were observed for the other variables. Conclusion: There was a moderate correlation between MVIC and 1RM of the right hip internal rotators, as well as indications of an association between hip rotator muscle asymmetry and knee valgus in ballet dancers.
