Abstract

Introduction: Artistic gymnastics imposes high biomechanical demands on the lower limbs, particularly the ankles, which contributes to a high incidence of injuries such as sprains and tendinopathies. Proper physiotherapeutic rehabilitation is essential to restore joint function and ensure a safe return to sport. Objective: This study described the most recent scientific evidence on the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic interventions in the rehabilitation of ankle injuries in artistic gymnastics athletes. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted based on a strategy focused on the four essential components for formulating a clinical research question: Patient, Intervention, Comparison or Control, and Outcome (PICO). Study selection considered publications addressing physiotherapeutic interventions applied to gymnasts with ankle injuries. Results: Therapeutic protocols were identified, highlighting eccentric exercises, early mobilisation techniques, and interventions combined with psychosocial approaches. The studies reported significant benefits in pain reduction, functional improvement, and recurrence prevention. Furthermore, the importance of individualized treatments and interdisciplinary collaboration was emphasised. Conclusion: Physiotherapeutic interventions proved effective in the rehabilitation of injured ankles in gymnasts, especially when based on individualized and multifactorial approaches. However, there was a scarcity of studies specifically targeting this population. Future research should explore the integration of biomechanical technologies, psychological aspects, and preventive strategies in order to contribute to the standardisation of clinical practices.
