Impact of endometriosis on women's lives and the nursing care: integrative review

Introduction: Endometriosis is a chronic, inflammatory and benign gynecological disease that affects millions of women of reproductive age, compromising their quality of life, a fact that requires special attention from the nursing team. Objective: To describe the impact of endometriosis on women's lives, considering the multiple spheres affected, and to understand how nursing care can contribute to improving the quality of life of these patients. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out by searching the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), the Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online (MEDLINE) databases, and Google Scholar, using the controlled descriptors endometriosis and nursing care, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Publications from 2014 to 2024 were included. Results: The sample consisted of 8 publications. The main findings indicate that chronic pain related to endometriosis is the most disabling symptom, interfering with women's daily life and mental health. In addition, impacts on sex life, interpersonal relationships, professional performance, and self-esteem were observed. The role of nursing stands out as essential for welcoming, pain management, health education and psychosocial support. Conclusion: Endometriosis has a great impact on women's lives and nursing, through a humanized and comprehensive approach, is a fundamental agent for promoting the well-being of women with endometriosis, and it is necessary to expand the training of professionals and strengthen empathetic and evidence-based care practices.
