Abstract

Objective: to identify the main barriers to early mobilization according to the perception of professionals in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Methods: Cross-sectional study, carried out with a multidisciplinary team working in the ICU of a Public Hospital in Teresina-PI. The research participants included doctors, nurses, speech therapists and physiotherapists, who provided a self-administered questionnaire adapted from Capozzoli (2021), regarding early mobilization and identification of barriers related to the patient, institution and team. Results: 42 professionals participated, including 13 nursing technicians, 10 physiotherapists, 9 nurses, 7 doctors and 3 speech therapists. Females predominated (32 interviewees, 76.2%), with an average age of 36 ± 6.4 years. The entire declared team is informed about what early mobilization was about, with the main barriers being hemodynamic instability in relation to the patient, the lack of materials in relation to the hospital and the lack of priority to early mobilization in relation to the main multidisciplinary team. Conclusion: The main barriers to early mobilization, according to the perception of the professionals surveyed, in this study were hemodynamic instability (the most limiting barrier in general), the lack of equipment at the institution and the lack of priority for mobilization.
