Introduction: Pain is a global public health problem, which impacts the young adult population. However, it is unclear what proportion of university professors suffer from pain. Objective: To verify the prevalence of pain in Brazilian university professors. Methods: Systematic review, with PROSPERO registration (CRD42020223759), carried out in the databases PUBMED, EBSCOhost/SPORTdiscus, LILACS, MEDLINE, VHL Portal, Google Scholar and SciELO. Descriptors: “Pain”, “Chronic Pain”, “Faculty”, “Faculty, Dental”, “Faculty, Medical”, “Faculty, Nursing”, “Faculty, Pharmacy”. Included: Observational studies; transversal; developed with university professors, in Brazilian higher education institutions; who have assessed the prevalence of pain. Excluded: studies that did not report the methodology for measuring the outcome; studies with instruments that did not evaluate pain as a primary outcome, subsequently presenting insufficient data to analyze the results. The risk of bias assessed with the scale proposed by Hoy. Results: 1,364 articles were identified, but 6 were included. These were cross-sectional studies, published between 2004 and 2015, 4 of them from the south/northeast regions. The sample totaled 853 teachers, 70% of whom were women. The prevalence of pain varied between 36.5% and 96%. The greatest perception of self-reported pain was of moderate intensity. The main pain complaints were in the cervical and lumbar regions. The studies have moderate to high risk of bias. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of pain, as well as a possible chronicity in university professors. However, studies with adequate methodological rigor are still necessary to confirm the results presented.
