Creencias protestantes y sus impactos en la promoción de la salud mental: Revisión exploratória

Resumen

Introducción: La religiosidad constituye un importante determinante psicosocial de la salud mental, influyendo en los comportamientos, percepciones y estrategias de afrontamiento. Objetivo: Mapear la evidencia científica sobre las creencias protestantes y sus relaciones con la salud mental. Métodos: Revisión de alcance realizada de acuerdo con las recomendaciones del Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) y del Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). La búsqueda se efectuó en las bases de datos Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS), Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Scopus y PsycINFO, sin restricciones de idioma ni de período. Se utilizó la estrategia Population, Concept and Context (PCC). La selección de los estudios fue realizada por tres revisores independientes, con el apoyo del software Rayyan. Resultados: Se incluyeron nueve estudios. Los resultados fueron heterogéneos. Las evidencias indican que la religiosidad protestante puede estar asociada con la disminución de síntomas depresivos y ansiosos, un mayor bienestar psicológico y el fortalecimiento del apoyo social. Sin embargo, se observan impactos negativos en contextos religiosos conservadores, especialmente entre las minorías sexuales. Conclusión: Las creencias protestantes se asociaron con diferentes resultados de salud mental, con asociaciones favorables en algunos contextos, aunque sus efectos varían según factores socioculturales e individuales.
