Prevention and treatment of pressure injuries at the risk of impaired skin integrity: integrative review

Objective: to identify evidence in the scientific literature on the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries in patients at risk of impaired skin integrity. Methods: integrative review, carried out in 2020, with a search carried out in the databases of the Virtual Health Library (VHL), CAPES/MEC and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) journals, from 2015 to 2019, considering productions in Portuguese, Spanish and English. To describe the collected data, illustrative tables were created with the relevant information. The analysis was carried out descriptively. Results: 12,955 publications were identified in the databases and the sample consisted of 10 articles and a Guideline, the majority of which had level 1 evidence. In the analysis of the studies, the thematic categories “Prevention and Treatment of PI” and “Nutritional Treatment of PI” emerged, with associated subcategories. Conclusion: There is evidence in the scientific literature on the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries in patients at risk of impaired skin integrity, with positive results in dressings, topical products, use of natural products, changes in posture, among others, grouping subsidies for guidance to patients, families and caregivers.
