Introduction: Decision-making in emergency services is a critical process that impacts the quality of care and prognosis of patients. It involves the ability to assess complex situations and implement interventions quickly. Objective: A literature review highlighted the challenges faced by nurses when making decisions in emergency environments and, consequently, the interference in the quality and safety of care. Methods: An integrative literature review was carried out, searching for articles in the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, published on the subject from 2018 to the first half of 2024. The articles were found in English and read in full according to the study's objective. Results: Deliberation in emergency services is influenced by several factors such as the severity of the situation, availability of resources, training and experience of the nurse, and ability to work under pressure. Conclusion: Continuing education and specific emergency training are crucial to prepare nurses for a challenging environment such as the emergency room, where decision-making needs to be quick and assertive; specific emergency training, simulation programs in high-pressure scenarios, and continuing education on the best conduct for nurses in this environment are necessary.
