Management of psychotropics in urgency and emergency services: integrative review

Introduction: psychotropic drugs are medications routinely used in urgent and emergency services, they act directly on the Central Nervous System, producing changes in behavior, mood and cognition. Objective: to analyze what specialized literature has revealed about the management of psychotropic drugs in urgent and emergency services, highlighting the challenges faced and the strategies adopted to guarantee access and safety in the use of these substances. Methods: this is an integrative literature review, held in November 2024, the search for which was carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) databases, using the descriptors related to management, psychotropics, urgency, emergency and nursing, combined with the Boolean operator "AND". Articles in Portuguese and English, published in the last 10 years, were selected. Results: the sample consisted of 7 articles. By understanding the difficulties and adopting appropriate measures, it is possible to improve the quality of care provided to patients who require psychotropic medications in crisis situations, contributing to the promotion of the population's emotional well-being and reducing negative outcomes associated with the misuse of these drugs. Conclusion: efficient management of psychotropic drugs in the urgent and emergency service is essential to ensure patient safety and treatment effectiveness.
